Large chunks of obsidian, from "Big Obsidian Flow" that happened 1300 years ago, appear on the side of Paulina Peak in Newberry National Volcanic Monument. A one-mile trail winds through the obsidian and pumice landscape with interpretive signs telling about the flow's history.
