Nenana is known for three things. (1) The Nenana Ice Classic. Each winter, a wooden tripod is placed on the frozen Tanana River, and entrants pay $2.50 to record their best guess as to when the ice will break up each spring. With no lottery, this is very popular and the pot usually exceeds $300,000. (2) The Alaska Railroad Museum. (3) The Nenana Visitor Center with sod roof.
